The Seychelles is a prized destination among honeymooners and holiday goers. It is a country scattered among 115 islands, although only a few are populated. Most people go to the Seychelles to experience the primeval beauty of its environment, as it has some of the most breath-taking beaches of the world.

Enjoy the local gastronomy

The Seychelles being a country surrounded by the ocean, the local gastronomy is mostly based on the abundant seafood. Like in Mauritius, the cuisine is a fusion of Asian, European and African cooking with tasty spices used in abundance.

Some unusual dishes that you may encounter during your holiday in the Seychelles are: Rousettes which are fruit bats cooked in various styles, shark chutney, and Ladob which is made from sweet potatoes and ripe plantain and may include cassava, corosso or breadfruit. There is also a salty version of the latter which is usually served with salted fish.

The local beverages include:
Palm wine, which is also named calou, an alcoholic beverage made from coconut sap.
Bacca, which is an alcoholic beverage made from sugarcane liquor.
Coco d’amour, which is a coconut liqueur made with coconut extract.
Local beers named Seybrew and Ekyu.

Go Shopping

The capital of the Seychelles, Victoria is the ideal place to go shopping for souvenirs to bring back from your holidays. There, you will find a lot of local products crafted from sea shells as well as locally-fabricated pearl jewelry and various artworks such as paintings and sculptures. By renting a car in Mahé, you will have no problem getting around the capital and all around Mahé Island.

Visit the Vallee de Mai on Praslin Island

The Vallée de Mai on Praslin Island is an ecological reserve classified as a world heritage site. It is especially known for being one of the largest forests of the endemic coco-de-mer palm trees. It is also home to several rare animal species of the Seychelles.

Other than the Vallée de Mai, the Seychelles has many more nature parks and reserves such as the Sanctuary at Roche Caïman on the west coast of Mahé, the Port Launay Coastal Wetlands near Port Glaud in Mahé, the Morne Seychellois National Park also in Mahé and the Ile Cocos Marine National Park which is a favourite spot for SCUBA diving and snorkeling.

A lot of other activities are available in the Seychelles such as hiking, golf, horse riding, bicycle trips, as well as a bevy of water sports so tourists who want to get away from the busy European cities will surely find all the excitement and adventure they need in the Seychelles.
