Attractions neighbouring Tamassa Resort

Since Tamassa Resort is situated in the South, you will be able to discover the southern beauty of Mauritius.

The tour begins with the Domaine des Aubinaux, a former colonial house built at the end of the 19th century. Today, this colonial house has been transformed into a museum and houses a collection of antique furniture and photos. In the old stables there is now a meeting room, an essential oil distillery and a souvenir shop.


Tea Factory


Then, head to the Bois Chéri tea factory where you will be able visit tea plantations Learn all about making tea (Mauritian) and taste some freshly picked tea flavored meals. “The Bois Chéri”.

The last stop of your visit will be the industrial sugar estate of Saint-Aubin, located in Rivière des Anguilles, near Souillac. Here you will find an old colonial house built in 1819, which now houses a table d’hôte, a distillery of rum, anthurium greenhouses and vanilla orchids. The Vanilla House is a museum dedicated to the transformation of Vanilla and a restaurant where you can taste regional dishes.

Also in Rivière des Anguilles, you can make a detour by “The Mascarene Reserve Vanilla”, a zoological park of Nile crocodiles, iguanas, frogs, Madagascar turtles, Seychelles giant tortoises, Geckos, donkeys etc… The park extends over 3.5 hectares of lush vegetation.


Mahebourg and the south-east

Ile aux aigrettes

In the south-east of the island, the town of Mahebourg was the former capital of Mauritius during the first part of the French colonization. You will also find the Marine Museum, which houses a collection of old furniture, an exhibition on the naval battle of Vieux Grand-Port in 1810, cannonballs, swords and weapons belonging to Robert Surcouf.

Near Mahebourg, one of the most natural places of Mauritius; Ile of Aigrettes, an island where many protected species live, as well as a small primary ebony forest. You can visit the island on guided tours organized by the Mauritius Wildlife Foundation.
