Piton de la Fournaise, Reunion Island

Réunion Island, once known as Ile Bourbon is a French department located in the southwest of the Indian Ocean and covers an area of 2,512 km². About 200 km southwest of Mauritius, Ile de la Reunion is more popular for its volcanoes, especially, Piton de la Fournaise which adds a special touch to the uniqueness of the island.

The island is inhabited by nearly 844,994 persons and the shores of the islands are constantly gaining meters with each major eruption of the massive Piton de la Fournaise. The capital city Saint-Denis is well known for its architectural houses.

Ile de la Reunion has a lot to offer, from beaches, iconic volcanoes, rich biodiversity and picturesque landscape to a lovely culture.

The Island enjoys a tropical climate nearly all year round. The atmosphere in summer is sunny, warm and humid where occasional breezes soften the climate. Summer is from November to April, similar to her sister island Mauritius. Average temperature is 26°c in this period.
